As the child of immigrants, my parents took me overseas at a very early age. I am told I was in Hong Kong at age 1, but I admit I can't actually remember it. I do remember being in Tokyo at age 8, and in Pakistan and Bangkok before 10. The way I see it, my parents laid a foundation and I just continued traveling through high school and college and beyond. When I was 23 I traveled by myself around the world. But I've had a dry spell over the last 12 years. Work, family and life had my wings bound up in other things. I am so excited to report that I am currently on an around-the-world trip and this blog is to commemorate said seal being re-broken.
Now I am traveling with my family -- my husband, Mitch, my sons, Mizan (9) and Mohan (4). With the perspective of being in my middle of life years, and as a mother, I do travel differently, but it's just as exhilarating!
This blog is an experiment for me. I used to drive a red Mazda 323 with a bunch of bumper stickers plastered to the back. One of my favorites was a quote by the esteemed J.R.R. Tolkien, "Not all who wander are lost." I used to drive around proudly with that sticker on my backside, often at the ridicule of my peers. I realize I've been a wanderer my whole life, and the path continues. So let's see where this takes me...
